A young eco-activist was inducted into the Order of Nova Scotia this month. Stella Bowles is the youngest inductee to the Order ever.
How did a 16-year-old earn Nova Scotia’s highest honour? By convincing the local, provincial, and federal governments to clean up the LaHave River.
It all started in the summer of 2015, when Stella was 11. She just wanted to swim in the LaHave River. It flowed right by her Nova Scotia home.
Her mother wouldn’t let her. She said the water was contaminated with untreated sewage. In other words, poop!
