May 12 was Census Day in Canada. A federal agency called Statistics Canada runs the census. Every five years, it sends households and farms a short survey. 

The Census of Population collects basic information. Where Canadians live and work. How old they are. Where they come from and the languages they speak. It’s like a giant snapshot of Canada. The Census of Agriculture collects detailed information about farms.
