SpaceX founder Elon Musk wants to send a million satellites into space. Why? As orbiting AI data centres.

Data centres are giant warehouses, full of powerful computer servers. There are already 12,000 of them around the world. But the demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI.

“Space is always sunny”

A single AI data centre can use as much power as 100,000 homes. Cooling its servers can use millions of litres of water a day.

Elon Musk says the Sun will power his data centres. Water won’t be needed to cool the servers – it’s cold in space.
