A few nights before Christmas, Dave Nguyen was looking for a ride home from downtown Ottawa. 

He found one. And he also found a friend.

Home for the holidays

Dave had been at a Christmas party. It was late and cold and snowy, so he called an Uber. The Uber driver was Chance Niyomugabo.

The two men chatted on the way home. Dave learned that Chance came to Canada from Rwanda, a tropical country in Africa. He’d lived in Ottawa for eight years. He worked hard, planting trees in the summer and driving an Uber in the winter.
