Scientists have found a creative way to protect rhinos from poachers. How do they do it? By making their horns radioactive. It’s called the Rhisotope Project.
Plummeting population
Rhinos need our protection. Most of the rhinos in Africa and Asia are endangered or at risk. In the early 1900s, there were half a million. The population has plunged to just 28,000. More than half of them live in South Africa.
One big reason for the decline? The demand for their horns.
