On April 1, the federal government announced that it will fund a new program in schools across the country. But this program doesn’t involve what students learn. It targets what they eat.

The government is starting a national school food program.

Falling short

Some Canadian schools already have nutrition programs. They give kids healthy snacks or meals. But they can’t keep up with the demand. The price of food is skyrocketing. School snack programs are struggling to buy the food they need.
