On December 1, while driving his son to school, Paul Rellinger saw something strange. A kangaroo! It was hopping along the side of the road.

Not an unusual sight for Australia, maybe. But this was Durham Region, just east of Toronto.

“It was an odd start to our morning. Who expects to see a kangaroo? Especially in this part of the world.”

“Tailing” the roo

The kangaroo had escaped the night before from the Oshawa Zoo. She and one other were en route to Quebec. The zoo was putting them up for the night.
