Researchers have given a new face to some very old bones. They used modern science to rebuild the face of a Neanderthal man.

He is known as the Old Man of La Chapelle. He lived about 56,000 years ago.

A new species

Neanderthals (Homo neanderthalensis) are our closest human cousins. Our species –  Homo sapiens – evolved in Africa. Neanderthals evolved in Europe and Asia. They died out about 40,000 years ago.
