On October 3, Members of Parliament picked a new Speaker for the House of Commons. They elected Greg Fergus, a Liberal MP who represents the riding of Hull-Aylmer. Mr. Fergus is the first Black Speaker of the House.

He became an MP in 2015. But that wasn’t his first job in the House of Commons. In first-year university, Mr. Fergus was a parliamentary page. Assisting the House Speaker gave him a close look at how the government works.
